Jaws opens with a medium shot of a lady running into the see. She is shown to be wearing very little which connotes adult themes. The soundtrack at this time is fairly happy and cheerful.

There is then a long shot of the sea looking very calm and relaxed. This makes the audience feel rather tense as you know something scary is about to happen. There is then a close up shot of the lady in the sea looking excited and happy. This is also unusual due to the type of film we are watching.
There is then a low angle shot of the lady swimming with really clear water. This makes me feel like a shark is about to appear. The soundtrack is still calming and relaxing which makes the audience feel there will be a change in tune soon. There is a following camera movement as the actor carries on to swim. When the actor stops swimming there is a dolly zoom low angle moving towards the character. This looks like there is something watching her and about to attack from beneath.
As the soundtrack speeds up creating a more tense environment, there is a close up shot showing the lady in fear and being dragged down. She looks as if she is struggling to stay above sea level. You then begin to hear laughing suggesting her boyfriend is playing tricks on her. This will make the audience feel less threatened but expecting a jump soon.At the end of the opening scene there is a close up of the lady going
underwater and not coming back up. The long shot showing the sea calm and relaxed suggests she had been attacked slowly and carefully.
