Script Number 1:

In our opening two minutes we thought that it would be effective to use eerie soundtracks and not much vocals. However, in our scene the words used by our characters help the audience understand what is going on and what is expected to happen.

TARA: Hi it's Tara, sorry I can't get to the phone right now, but please leave a message after the tone.

ELLIE: Look Tara, you obviously don't care so, don't speak to me again.

*****GASP NOISES********

*****STRUGGLING NOISES******

BELLA: Is it done?

ROSEMARY: She's dead.

BELLA: How'd you do it?

******PLASTIC BAG RUSTLING******

BELLA: Where's the body?

ROSEMARY: I left her, down the Alley.

BELLA: We never speak of this again.

This is our script, it may become different once everything is done or if we have to change parts of the film. I feel it's quite subtle but gives away details and helps explain what the film is about and what's to come later in the film.

Titles Analysis:

We have decided to call our film 'The Alley'. This is because Alleyway got the most votes on our questionnaire and it relates to our film the most.

We have also decided that the colour of our title will be black as it connotes mystery, death and suspicion. We didn't want to use red as it would represent blood and murder, we feel this would look to cliché.

This is our first design which we have decided against. This is because we don't want the title to be red and have blood dripping down it. At first I thought it would look effective, however it's to cliché and would give away to much. It also doesn't look very professional, it looks very fake and not well created. I feel it looks like a title which would be on a 'spoof' movie as it looks quite jokey and wacky. This title connoted blood, murder and knife slashing. Our movie doesn't involve blood and usage of a knife so we don't want to advertise it in the title.

Our second design is very strong as the sharp font connotes danger and the colour black suggests mystery death and suspicion. I really like the look of this design as its scary looking and perfect for our film. It looks like it has been written by a child which links to the horror film 'Orphan'. We want the title for our film to come across as frightening immediately but also present the genre of our film which is thriller.  My whole group like this Title, Nadiye said it shows the type of film and connotes assault, killing and weapons. Chloe and Katy also said that its effective in showing what our film will be about and how creepy the setting will be. The location of our film is in an Alleyway so a sinister looking title of the place will make it appear even more intimidating and frightening.

This is our third font, it's also black as we feel it suits our film best as we want it to connote death, suspicion and mystery. I like the block capitals as it stands out and helps represent our thriller genre. I think it looks good and would be effective to use when introducing our film. The block writing helps produce a bold effect which doesn't give away to much about the film. Compared to title number two, it doesn't give away a frightening image, it just informs where the setting of the film is with a interesting effect. I like this title as its takes your eye and I feel it doesn't give to much away it leaves the viewers/audience questioning what will happen in the film and whats to come.

This is our fourth title, it's black as it connotes  death, murder and suspense but also there is a scratched affect which makes the title appear scary and threatening. The T, E, A, E and Y have been edited to look mysterious and scratched. This suggests there is a frightening part to our thriller film and we want to leave the audience questionable and vulnerable.  This is my second favourite title as the font isn't really striking and eerie but the effect to the title creates an interesting effect to the film and title itself.

This is another very strong title as its fairly standard by the block capitals however has an interesting view to it with the cut out letters. I like the colour black as its mysterious and not as clichè as red would be. I think this title would be successful for our film as it doesn't give away as much as title 2. Number two is to horror like as it looks like a knife slash.






I think we should use either title 2, 3 or 5. I like number 2 as its font type is sharp and mysterious which helps make the film and setting appear scary and threatening. I like number 3 as its not so captivating and leaves a lot to the imagination. Its effective though as its bold and in capitals. I also like number 5 as its unoriginal and doesn't immediately connote murder and death. I think I like these fonts as the colour is plain, simple and black. This connotes death, murder and mystery and ambiguity. We didn't want to use a colour like red as it gives to much away and is very clichè. We wanted to try and give small hints from the title, not give away the whole plot. 

Our Film Animatic:

This is our film animatic. Nadiye and Katy did most of the drawings for our storyboard and Chloe and Myself did the editing and combining all the drawings together. We hope this gives you an insight to what we hope to produce with our film making and editing skills.

Questionnaire Results:

From our questionnaire we got a range of different results which were fairly gender stereotyped. This has helped us decide what we want to achieve in our film. We wanted to ask a range off different people from age and gender so our answers weren't biased. Our results will help us choose our title, assault weapon and many other aspects and details to our film.

From our results we have have found that the general public enjoy thrillers and horrors compared to romance films and comedies. The answers from our questionnaire will help us come up with tittles, themes and other things that will hopefully make our film a successful opening two minutes. The public said they would expect to see murder in a thriller film which is what we have decided to do in our film. We have decided to call our film 'The Alley' as Alleyway was the most popular choice. Myself, Nadiye, Katy and Chloe have decided to make it 'The Alley' as its more effective and we feel more engaging.

Camera Angle's And Shots In Our Opening Scene:

In our opening scene we wanted to include as many different camera angles and movements to help achieve a high grade. By using different camera angles and cross cuts were hoping to get a really effective opening scene that viewers will enjoy.

Long Shot
A shot which shows the setting/location and body language of the characters. We used this to show both locations in our opening scene. The woods and coffee shop.

Two Shot
A shot with two people in the scene. Used when our characters were having a conversation about the assault.

Canted Angle
A shot where the camera is slanted at an angle to portray unease, madness and frantic action. Used when we filmed Nadiye(Tara) walking into the woods. It shows that she is walking into a mysterious suspicious location.

Medium Shot
A shot which shows more detail within a scene but also a characters body language. Used when our antagonist assaults the protagonist. It shows her body language as suspicious and evil.

Close Up
A shot which fills up the frame of either an object or certain character. It shows the characters emotions. Used when Mae(Ellie) is on the phone as you can see she is upset and when Nadiye(Tara) is being suffocated as it fills the frame and you can also see horror and fright.

Extreme Close Up
A shot which shows finer detail and completely fills the frame tightly of the characters face. Used when showing Nadiye(Tara's) hand movement. The audience is able to see the finer detail.

Over The Shoulder Shot
A shot which is filmed looking over someones shoulder. Its shows different perspectives and point of view. Used when Chloe(Rosemary) and Katy(Bella) are in conversation.

Shot Reverse Shot
A scene which is recorded twice showing a conversation from two different parts in the scene. Shows a character looking at another character then the other way around. Used when Chloe(Rosemary) and Katy(Bella) are in conversation. Looks more effective overall.

Match On Action
Editing technique for continuity in which the shot cuts from one to another to show the actions of the character/object. Used when Mae(Ellie) picks up her phone to call Tara.

 Pan
A camera movement which helps show the setting/location. The camera will either pan up or down, or left to right. We used at the beginning of our opening scene to show the audience where it is set.

In order for our opening scene to be successful, myself, Nadiye, Katy and Chloe thought it would be a good idea to get a range of different opinions from the general public. We decided to ask a bunch of  people from different age groups and genders so we got accurate results which wouldn't be biased. We wanted them to be real and opinionated to help us achieve the best we could when filming and preparing ideas.
